EXPATRIATION AT A GLANCE

Today, we would like to share with you a summary of an article recently published in “LES ECHOS”.

We would like to point out some specific topics contained in this article and complete them with our experience and knowledge.

“Women’s participation in international mobility is on the up”

Nowadays the percentage of women expatriated by companies is 20% *.

Thirty years ago it was 2% **.

“The expatriation assignments are shorter: Setting-up an expat family is more and more expensive and returns are always difficult.”

Companies are aware that returning to the home countries is an issue. However, this step of the expatriation remains a challenge for HR and a source of frustration for expats, whose skills and international experience are not always valued as they expected. Therefore, 47% of expatriates quit their company within the two years after their return. This figure rises to over 60% among the nationals of Western Europe ***.

“Nowadays some expats who didn’t want to go back home, decide to stay in the host country with a local contract for family and tax reasons.”

This is a major change. In the next post we are going to look at the local assignments for expats.
